Reas Wins Decisively
Judy Reas Showed the Strength and Depth of Her Support With a nearly 80% Win.

PARK FALLS – On September 9th Judy Reas dominated the Democratic primary for the 87th assembly district with nearly 80% of the vote.

“I was very pleased with the results. We worked real hard trying to reach as many people as possible. The response was great. This campaign is about the people and they've shown that they are ready for change” according to Reas.

Reas will now advance to the general election November 4th.  Judy has been going door to door making personal connections with people and it shows in her primary results.  Folks have been very excited to support Reas and the need for personal representation. Reas continues to voice priority for fair taxation for the middle class, affordable healthcare for all, fair funding for our northern schools and the need to protect our natural resources and it shows in her broad based support.

“A huge thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters. The hard work of the extensive network of volunteers made all the difference,” Reas said.

Judy Reas:  Rep. Mary Williams Does Not Work For Us
State Rep. Put Big Money Special Interests Above the Health of Our Lakes

PARK FALLS – Judy Reas, long-time Park Falls resident and candidate for the 87th Assembly district, had something to say about a recent vote by Rep. Mary Williams in the Republican controlled Assembly Natural Resources Committee.

The Committee opposed a sensible rule change that would have reduced the amount of mercury pollution in Wisconsin.

“Rep. Williams’ recent vote in the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources is yet another example of why the 87th Assembly district deserves a candidate who is willing to fight for us” said Reas. “Rep. Williams voted with the special interests when she decided to put the views of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce above the views of the majority of us in Northern Wisconsin, where we are overwhelmingly in favor of keeping mercury poison out of our pristine lakes and rivers.”

The rule change that was proposed by the DNR would have required coal-fired plants to reduce their mercury emissions by 90 percent by 2015. Yesterday, Mary Williams who sits on the conservation committee voted against reducing mercury levels, effectively blocking this proposal.

Mercury has a devastating effect on the health of people who come in contact with mercury at high levels. Health problems that have resulted from mercury exposure include brain damage, vision loss, and impaired coordination. It also has a negative effect on our environment and needs to be taken care of immediately.

The recent mercury vote is another example of Rep. Williams coming up short when it comes to protecting our lakes. Rep. Williams also voted against legislation she actually cosponsored (AB 86) that would have reduced the risk of spreading invasive species that are destroying waterways and killing native fish species. The bill would have required shipping vessels to clean their ballast water.

“Rep. Williams continues to ignore our communities' concerns,” said Reas. “It’s not the representation we need, and it’s not the way that I will lead when I am elected.”
